With over 70 years of experience in the IT industry Eddy Trivett and Ian McDermott created Softlink Solutions in 1998 to deliver IT infrastructure services to the SME market. Eddy’s many years of experience at Honeywell and as managing director of TipData Ltd and Ian’s long experience of software development and directorship at TipData Ltd were a sound basis for starting the business.
“We could see that the general SME market had the growth potential and we wanted to bring what were often seen as ‘corporate’ systems within their reach,” says Eddy.
Their attention to the customer has been the core of the business and the whole company works with a flexible and responsive approach that means that the service levels and relationships are excellent.
When the original developers of the The Information Management System (TIMS) application, CSB Steeple Ltd, decided to retire and close their company after 30 successful years, Softlink Solutions took over the support and development of this ERP application.
Eddy’s son, Neil, joined the company after working with a London based I.T. public limited company. His experience in sales support and new business account management, working alongside several of the top computer hardware manufacturers was brought back to Softlink Solutions when he joined the team as technical and sales consultant.
“In 2005 I invested in the business and took on the responsibilities of Technical and Sales Director. I will be taking over the role of Managing Director and want to make sure that the software development that Softlink specialises in is always matched with the highest levels of support and service,” says Neil.
In 2007 a sister company, Softlink Systems, was created to research and develop a replacement for the older Unix/Cobol TIMS application in order to serve those clients who needed an updated version in Windows. This is also generating new sales for Softlink QL, the replacement of TIMS.
This major software development enhances Softlink’s ability to undertake the role of a company’s Virtual I.T. Team by supplying all their I.T. needs. This includes desktop computing, Windows servers and networks, whether cabled or Wi-fi. Softlink also supplies hardware, software, backup and security solutions along with web sites for those clients wishing to take advantage of the Internet as part of their marketing.
Supporting their clients is also paramount and Softlink provide support contracts to suit the clients particular needs. As Eddy hands over the reins to Neil Softlink Solutions are now poised for expansion to take advantage of the growing ERP market and are looking at a successful and profitable future.
